American Football Association – Policy Insert
**Subject:** Misrepresentation Clause and Inactive/Non-Member Classification
1. Purpose
This policy insert formalizes standards for addressing misrepresentation, misconduct, or public behavior that may compromise the integrity of the American Football Association (AFA). It establishes two mechanisms — the Misrepresentation Clause and the Inactive/Non-Member Classification — to ensure fair enforcement and transparency in all governance matters.
2. Misrepresentation Clause
**2.1 Definition**
Any individual who knowingly misrepresents affiliation, membership, or honors conferred by the American Football Association is in violation of AFA integrity standards.
**2.2 Examples of Misrepresentation**
- Publicly claiming induction into the AFA Hall of Fame without confirmation by AFA records.
• Unauthorized use of the AFA name, logo, or credentials for personal, promotional, or fundraising purposes.
• Issuing statements or media releases implying AFA endorsement or partnership without written authorization.
**2.3 Consequences**
- Immediate suspension of membership and participation privileges.
• Bar from future nominations or honors unless reinstated by Executive Committee review.
• Public correction or clarification to protect AFA’s institutional reputation.
**2.4 Reinstatement**
Individuals found in violation may request reinstatement after a two-year minimum period via written appeal to the Executive Committee. Reinstatement requires documented corrective action and reaffirmation of commitment to AFA values.
3. Inactive/Non-Member Classification
**3.1 Purpose**
This classification allows the AFA to suspend privileges of members or inductees whose actions or communications conflict with AFA standards while preserving their historical recognition.
**3.2 Conditions for Inactive Status**
- Repeated noncompliance with AFA membership or conduct requirements.
• Public disparagement of the organization or its leadership.
• Conduct detrimental to the reputation or mission of the AFA.
**3.3 Consequences**
- Suspension of voting, nomination, and participation privileges.
• Ineligibility for new recognition, appointments, or awards.
• Retention of name in AFA Hall of Fame historical listings.
**3.4 Reinstatement**
Inactive individuals may appeal for reinstatement through written request to the President/CEO. The Executive Committee may restore privileges by majority vote following review of conduct and compliance.
4. Implementation & Oversight
Upon Executive Committee approval, these clauses become part of the AFA Operations Manual and apply to all members, alumni, and Hall of Famers. The President/CEO is authorized to enforce these provisions and maintain related documentation within the AFA Integrity Incidents File.
